“Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves even when we risk disappointing others.” - Brene Brown
“Boundaries are a prerequisite for compassion and empathy. We can’t connect with someone unless we are clear about where we end and they begin. If there is no autonomy between people, then there’s no compassion or empathy, just enmeshment.” - Brene Brown
This workshop is taught in Finnish with translation into English if needed (please let us know!).
Welcome to an empowering and embodied journey of exploring your needs and boundaries. How can you tune in with yourself to hear more deeply what your body is speaking? What is it that you need, what is your body asking for, here and now? How does your body say yes and no? Can we dance ourselves into that sweet spot of being centered, sensitive, and assertive at the same time about what we need and what we don’t want?
In this workshop we will dive especially into both flowing and staccato, the first and second rhythms of the 5Rhythms practice. Flowing teaches us how to tune in and listen, to find your ground, be present for and move with what is here, and begin where you are.The teaching of staccato is finding the courage to express your own truth and your inner voice with clarity, honesty, and directness. In staccato we practice movement that has a clear beginning and end. The clear shapes of staccato are an invitation to explore the outlines and perimeter of your physical body, to more fully inhabit your body and your space, to wake up to your aliveness. Staccato focuses the juice of our flow into a direct expression of our own truth and inner voice.
We will practice both the sensitivity and courage to give this voice expression through movement, shapes, and breath. We’ll explore how our needs connect us to our inner voice, how (and when) your body says yes and no, and how our boundaries protect us and also show us where our needs might not be met.
When we dance, we can practice and experience integrity: the sense of coming into alignment with ourselves, where we are honest with what we’re experiencing, we can express it and let it be seen, let it go, and make space for something new. Being in integrity, connected to what we need and where our boundaries are, builds deeper self-trust that allows us to more deeply and honestly connect with others.
Winter retreat in Helsinki, Finland in an amazing venue on the island of Suomenlinna, with a World Heritage Site sea fortress. You can stay on-site at Hostel Suomenlinna or book your own accommodation.
Join us for dancing wave after wave, with darkness and light, between moving and resting. Allowing the winter hibernating bear part of us to rest with other dancing bodies. Waking up the fire and energy inside us, reaching towards our own inner light in the darkness of winter. Weather permitting, there will also be opportunities to move outside in the winter, to hopefully dance with and in snow, and to play with the elements of winter in many ways.
Suomenlinna is an easy 20 minute ferry ride away from central Helsinki. And you can fly direct to Helsinki from many international airports. If you want to explore the Arctic and the North of Finland as well, you can have an adventure in winter magic before or after this retreat. This is the best time of year for skiing, for instance!
